Cheesy lyrics and cluttered production plague about half of the 11 tracks on Jessica Sanchez’s debut album, “Me, You & The Music,” but her rich, powerful vocals still make it worth a listen. Aside from lead single, “Tonight” (which I’ve raved about a couple times already), the standout song on the album is easily the Sia Furler and Toby Gad penned, “Gentleman,” which finds Jessica singing about needing a chivalrous man to come along and sweep her off her feet (err, “put it on” her). Other favorites include the Ester Dean collaboration, “Plastic Roses,” the Benny Benassi produced, “No One Compares,” and the sickly-sweet ballad, “Crazy Glue” (which, in spite of its childish lyrics, is actually a really a fine showcase of Jessica’s incredible vocal talent). The rest of the songs on the album range from fun mid-tempo pop (“Don’t Come Around”) to frantic, cluttered dance (“You’ve Got The Love,” which sounds like 10 different songs being played all at once). All in all, the album’s a quick, breezy listen. You won’t find anything groundbreaking, but Jessica always sounds fantastic. It’s clear that with label support, she has the potential to grow into a successful pop artist in the coming years.
Unfortunately, Jessica doesn’t seem to be getting a whole lot of label support at the moment. Interscope took a while to give “Tonight” an official radio adds date, and it’s only had one measly promotional performance so far. No wonder the song is under-performing! It’s not uncommon for former American Idol contestants to quickly put out a lightweight first album in order to capitalize on their fame, but if the label doesn’t have their back, they may never have the chance to show what they’re really made of on album number two. Just ask Haley Reinhart, the American Idol alum who Interscope dropped at the end of last year just months after the release of her debut album, “Listen Up!”. I hope Jessica doesn’t share the same fate.
“Me, You & the Music” is available for download on iTunes now, It’s also streaming for free on Spotify. If you’re thirsty for some new pop, it might be just the thing to tide you over until some of the bigger spring releases arrive!
Hmm, flattery or shade? British boy band The Wanted premiered their brand new single “Walks Like Rihanna” this morning on Capital FM, and it’s built around the line, “She can’t sing, she can’t dance, but who cares? She walks like Rihanna.” Now just WHAT are these boys trying to say? I saw Rih in concert last month and I can assure you, she CAN sing and she CAN dance, she’s just gonna be an hour and a half late to the show!
All kidding aside, I don’t think the boys are really trying to shade Rihanna. She’s even bigger in the U.K. than she is in the U.S. and it would be a huge mistake (not to mention the fact that she would drag them to the pits on every form of social media imaginable). Still, the lyrics can be easily misconstrued and you better believe the Beyonce stans are having a field day.
MTV reports that “Walks Like Rihanna” is produced by hit-maker Dr. Luke, and to be honest, it sounds a little more One Direction than The Wanted, but I still like it. The, “Our hearts go boom, boom! Boom, boom!” bit is quite adorable.

I’ll spare you the rant – Beyonce is a mess, this era is a mess, where is her management, re-hire Daddy Knowles. Okay, I’m done.
Early this morning, Beyonce’s commercial for retailer H&M hit the web featuring a brand new song called, “Standing on the Sun.” Popjustice reports that the track is written by Sia and produced by Greg Kurstin. The song is light and summery – I like it, but I think I like “Grown Woman” better.
Naturally, Beyonce looks absolutely incredible rolling around in the sand in a barely-there bikini, I just wish she would put out a press release or something to clear up all this mess! Will “Standing on the Sun” end up on Bey’s new album? Your guess is as good as mine.

Beyonce performed the elusive “Grown Woman” at her tour stop in Paris today, and it seals the deal: this song has the potential to be a MASSIVE hit…if she ever decides to release it! It has an incredibly infectious beat and most importantly, it’s QUOTABLE! Now that, “If you like it then you shoulda put a ring on it!” has been added to lexicon of moms, dads, grandmas, and grandpas everywhere, it is HIGH TIME for a new Beyonce catch phrase to sweep the nation! “I’m a grooown woman, I can do whatEVER I want!” could BE that catch phrase!
While it IS exciting that Bey is finally performing new music on her tour, it’s still unknown just what exactly “Grown Woman” is. Is it a promo single? Lead single? Or just some random album track? And why didn’t she perform it at any of her previous shows? So many questions, so few answers! Well, that’s not exactly true. Bey’s pal Gwyneth Paltrow (who seems to talk about Beyonce’s music more than Beyonce does these days) mentioned in a recent interview with Digital Spy that Beyonce’s new album is coming…SOON! So, you know, there’s that. Sigh.

From the school of “if it ain’t broke, don’t fix it,” Jennifer Lopez announced via Twitter this afternoon that she will be releasing her new RedOne-produced single, “Live It Up” featuring Pitbull on May 8th. TMZ reports that J. Lo is scheduled to perform the song live on American Idol on May 16th.
Jenny worked with both Pitbull and RedOne on 2011’s smash “On the Floor,” and again on last year’s moderate hit “Dance Again.” It would be nice to see J. Lo branch out a little bit, but at this point in her career, I think she’s looking for a sure thing. And when you’re talking about radio hits today, the combination of Pitbull and RedOne is about as close to a sure thing as you can get. A lot of people rag on RedOne for being “generic” and predictable, but he’s got a few really impressive songs in his discography (“Just Dance,” “Poker Face,” “Bad Romance,” “Starships”). The way I see it, when a popular producer is working on so many songs each year, you just have to realize that they can’t all be game-changers. Personally, I’m looking forward to hearing it!
Are you excited for J. Lo’s new single?
“Young & Beautiful,” Lana Del Rey’s new song for “The Great Gatsby” soundtrack, has just leaked. And it’s gorgeous.
I haven’t always been a fan of Lana’s mush-mouthed angst, but this song is epic in every sense of the word. When Lana sings, “Will you still love me when I’m no longer young and beautiful? […] I know you will, I know you will, I know that you will,” you know she really means, “I hope that you will.” Heartbreaking. And yet, she still manages to work in a line about partying. Bless her.

Are you sick of everything on the radio right now? Are you ready to punch “I Knew You Were Trouble” and “Thrift Shop” in the face? Do you want to listen to some sparkly, 80’s inspired dance pop that won’t make you lose your indie street cred? You’re in luck! The amazingly talented (and unsigned) Betty Who just released her new EP, “The Movement,” and it’s available for free download! Things really couldn’t get any better. Continue reading
I like French duo Daft Punk’s new single “Get Lucky,” but couldn’t it be funkier? I’m serious. Like, it’s a little funky, but ultimately the song doesn’t really go anywhere. I kept waiting for it to take it to that next level of FUNK, but it never did! It sort of just hangs out in the same spot for 4 minutes. Still, it’s a cute song.
It might not be funky enough for me, but it’s plenty funky for the rest of ya’ll! “Get Lucky” climbed to the #1 spot on U.S. iTunes a mere 10 hours after its midnight release. Pretty impressive. I guess more people are here for Daft Punk than I realized! “Get Lucky” is lifted from Daft Punk’s upcoming album “Random Access Memories,” available for pre-order on iTunes now.

According to Billboard, Katy Perry told an audience at ASCAP’s I Create Music Expo yesterday that she has written a new song called “Double Rainbow” for her upcoming third studio album. Apparently, Bonnie McKee came straight to the studio after a yoga session and told Katy that she felt like writing a song called “Double Rainbow.” And so they did. Amazing.
Katy also confirmed that she’s working closely with Max Martin and Dr. Luke on the album, as well as with Bonnie McKee, Greg Kurstin, Greg Wells, and, of course, Sia. Unfortunately, she’s only “halfway” through the recording process and doesn’t really feel pressure to finish anytime soon. Bummer, I was hoping for a summer single! Looks like a 4th quarter release is much more likely at this point. Let’s hope that the Icona Pop collaboration rumor turns out to be true! And of course, there’s always the possibility that Katy will be featured on Bonnie McKee’s new album…
I need new Katy and I don’t care who knows it!

will.i.am is just everywhere lately, isn’t he? We learned yesterday afternoon through media website AllAccess that Ke$ha’s third single from her “Warrior” album is “Crazy Kids,” but what we DIDN’T know until today is that the radio version of the song features a verse from will.i.am. As I mentioned a few days ago, will.i.am does have co-writing credit on “Crazy Kids,” and while “Warrior” was being recorded, it was rumored that he would feature on a song with Ke$h. So I guess we should’ve seen this coming.
Ke$ha stans the world over seem to be pretty pissed about this revelation, but I’m not. will’s hot right now and his verse is a lot of fun. Ke$ha’s last single “C’Mon” wasn’t exactly a radio hit, so maybe a feature from will is the bump she needs to climb back on top! Stream the radio version of “Crazy Kids” via AllAccess and let me know what you think in the comments!
P.S. Doesn’t she look incredible on the single cover? I mean, wow.
