Avril Lavigne’s comeback single “Here’s to Never Growing Up” isn’t set to debut until tomorrow morning, but a few snippets of the song have been posted online by her record label Epic in order to give us a sneak peek.
Co-written with fiance and Nickelback front man Chad Kroeger and Jacob Kasher (Ke$ha, Cobra Starship), “Here’s to Never Growing Up” is a guitar-driven pop song about running around like a drunken raccoon-faced hoodbrat, not unlike many of Lavigne’s previous singles (“Sk8er Boy,” “Girlfriend,” “What the Hell”). But I’m pleasantly surprised, actually. After it was revealed that Lavigne would not be working with longtime collaborators Max Martin & Shellback on her upcoming album, I was doubting her ability to craft another top 10 hit. But with a chorus that sounds like it’s being shouted by a dozen young misfits at the top of their lungs, “Here’s to Never Growing Up” is tailor-made for pop radio.
The Good: It definitely sounds like a hit!
The Bad: It sounds exactly how you’d expect an Avril Lavigne AND a Nickelback lead single to sound.
The In between: Not since Vitamin C’s “Graduation” has a song been more destined for prom playlists across the country.
Take a listen to two snippets of “Here’s to Never Growing Up” below and then tune in to On Air With Ryan Seacrest tomorrow morning at 9am EST to catch the premiere!
