Music News: New Taylor Swift album coming sooner than we think?

Just after winning four American Music Awards on Sunday night (an impressive tally, even though they’re fan voted), America’s sweetheart Taylor Swift sat down backstage with Billboard’s Keith Caulfield to chat a little bit about her new album.  And surprise!  Things are running “ahead of schedule.”

In fact, Swift admitted to recently playing seven new songs for her manager Scott Borchetta.  Taylor shared, “Yeah, we’ve got a lot.  We’ve got a lot already.  It’s crazy.  There’s probably seven or eight that I know I want on the record.  That’s really ahead of schedule for me.  I’m just stoked because it’s already evolved into a new sound and that’s all I wanted.  And I would’ve taken 2 years to make that happen but it just kind of happened naturally.”  Could we be getting a new album sooner than Fall 2014?  It certainly sounds like it!

In an interview with Vulture last week, Taylor said that while she’s going to work with new songwriters and producers on the project, she hopes to hit the studio with Swedish hit makers Max Martin and Shellback (“We Are Never Ever Getting Back Together,” “I Knew You Were Trouble,” “22”) first in order to figure out the “bone structure” of the album.  Awesome.

Taylor Swift’s been on fire lately.  Despite her country roots, her last album, “Red,” cemented Taylor as one of the world’s biggest pop stars, selling over 1.2 million copies in its first week in the U.S. alone.  It also gave Taylor her first Billboard Hot 100 #1 single with, “We Are Never Ever Getting Back Together” (the song was later nominated for Record of the Year at the Grammys), and helped her launch a wildly successful world tour.  But she’s not done yet!  Nominations for the 56th Annual Grammy Awards are announced on December 6th and I have a feeling Taylor will be competing in several of the top categories.  “Red” for Album of the Year and “I Knew You Were Trouble” for Record of the Year, please!

Are you excited for Taylor’s new album?
